A captivating evening bloomer, Four O’Clock Red (Mirabilis jalapa) is a vibrant and fragrant addition to any garden.

These bushy, fast-growing plants produce an abundance of deep red, trumpet-shaped flowers that open in the late afternoon and release a sweet, jasmine-like scent into the air. Their unique habit of blooming at dusk makes them perfect for moon gardens and evening landscapes.

Ideal for borders, cottage gardens, and containers, these drought-tolerant plants thrive in warm conditions and require minimal care. Four O’Clock Red is also a magnet for pollinators, attracting moths, butterflies, and hummingbirds with its fragrant blossoms.

For early flowering, sow seeds indoors from February to May. Soak seeds overnight to speed up germination, then plant them 1 cm deep in seed trays or pots filled with fine compost. Maintain a temperature of 18–22°C and keep soil moist. Once seedlings develop, transplant them into larger pots before hardening them off and planting outdoors after the last frost.

Low-maintenance and beautifully scented, Four O’Clock Red brings evening charm and colour to the garden, blooming reliably throughout summer and into autumn.
