Fennel Orion F1 Seeds - Irish Plants Direct
 
This early maturing hybrid is an excellent variety with uniformed smooth white fleshy bulbs with a mild aniseed flavour the bright green feathery foliage that can be used to flavour a variety of dishes.
 
It will attract a host of wildlife into the garden such as hoverflies.

Harvest July - October 
Companion plants fennel does not make a good companion plant for any vegetable and is best grown in a bed on it's own
Harvest the leaves from July and lift the bulbs from September
A good source of vitamin C and fibre
Use in Salads, roasting, braising and casseroles
 
Sow into well raked prepared fertile soil between April - June. The drills should be around 2cm deep and well watered, sow the seed thinly, each drill should be around 30cm apart.
 
Thin out the seedlings to 30cm when they emerge usually between 7 - 21 days to grow on. Earth up the roots when the bulbs begin to swell to preserve the whiteness and flavour of the bulb keep the plants well watered in warm weather.
 
They do not like root disturbance.
