A delicate and charming annual that produces masses of tiny star shaped blooms in soft pastel shades of pink lavender white and apricot.

 

Known as False Baby Stars, this Californian wildflower brings a fine airy texture to borders and containers, creating a cloud of colour that lasts throughout early and midsummer.

 

Plants form neat low mounds that become smothered in flowers, each with a bright contrasting eye that adds sparkle to the display.

 

The ferny foliage gives a light graceful appearance and blends beautifully with other cottage garden annuals. Highly attractive to bees and small pollinators, this species is perfect for naturalistic plantings and wildflower style borders.

 

Leptosiphon thrives in sunny well drained positions and is ideal for rock gardens gravel beds containers and the front of borders.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds on the surface of moist well drained compost and lightly press in without covering deeply as light aids germination. Maintain a temperature of 15 to 20°C in a propagator or covered tray. Transplant seedlings into small clumps when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out after the last frost spacing 15 to 25 cm apart. For direct sowing scatter thinly over prepared soil once the ground has warmed.

 

Grow and Maintenance

Water lightly during dry spells but avoid overwatering as plants prefer drier conditions. Remove spent blooms to prolong flowering. Leptosiphon thrives in sunny exposed positions and is ideal for rockeries containers and wildflower style plantings.
