Dimorphotheca Mixed Seeds

A sun loving annual with masses of daisy shaped blooms in soft shades of white creamy yellow and pastel apricot pink. Dimorphotheca Mixed also known as African Daisy or Namaqualand Daisy produces compact bushy plants with finely cut foliage and dark centred flowers that open in sunlight and close at night.

 

The blooms appear from early summer and continue into autumn attracting bees butterflies and hoverflies.

This hardy annual thrives in full sun and well drained soil and is ideal for borders containers and mass bedding.

 

It is drought tolerant once established and performs well in coastal gardens gravel schemes and wildlife friendly planting.

Germination 10 to 15 days at 15 to 18°C

Soil and Position Free draining sandy or loamy soil in full sun

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist well drained compost and lightly cover with fine soil or vermiculite. Maintain warmth at 15 to 18°C in a propagator or covered tray. Germination usually occurs within 1 to 2 weeks. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out after last frost spacing 30 to 40 cm apart. For direct sowing wait until soil is warm and frost risk has passed.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly during dry spells and feed monthly with a balanced fertiliser. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continued flowering. Dimorphotheca prefers full sun and poor to moderately fertile soil. Suitable for borders containers and wildlife schemes.
