Description
Dames Violet Mix Seeds - Irish Plants Direct
A charming, cottage garden favourite, this mix of Dame’s Violet offers clusters of beautifully fragrant flowers in shades of white, lilac, and deep purple.
The delicate, star-like blooms release a delightful sweet scent, especially in the evening, attracting pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and moths.
This hardy biennial or short-lived perennial thrives in borders, wildflower meadows, and woodland edges, bringing natural elegance to any garden.
Its tall, upright stems make it a fantastic cut flower, adding beauty and fragrance to floral arrangements.
Seed Qty: Approx. 1 grams
Sow: March – May or August – September
Germination: 14 – 21 days
Soil: Moist, well-drained soil, neutral to alkaline
Height: 80 – 100 cm
Flowering: May – July (from the second year)
Companion Plants: Foxgloves, Aquilegia, Sweet Rocket
Avoid Planting With: Highly competitive plants that may overshadow it
Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering and prevent excessive self-seeding.
Sowing Instructions
Sow seeds indoors from March to May in seed trays or pots, covering lightly with compost. Maintain a temperature of 15–20°C and keep soil consistently moist. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots. Harden off and plant outdoors after the last frost, spacing 30 cm apart.
For outdoor sowing, scatter seeds in a well-prepared seedbed from August to September. Lightly rake and water gently. Young plants will overwinter and bloom the following spring.
Dame’s Violet adds timeless beauty and an irresistible fragrance to garden spaces, making it a must-have for wildlife friendly planting schemes.
