Cress is one of the quickest and easiest greens to grow delivering crisp tender shoots with a bright peppery flavour. It is ideal for windowsills containers raised beds and children’s growing projects thanks to its rapid germination and reliable results. The fine leafy growth is best harvested young when the flavour is at its freshest and most vibrant.

 

This organic variety grows well in full sun or light shade and tolerates a wide range of soils. It can be sown repeatedly for a constant supply of fresh greens throughout the year. It is particularly suited to indoor sowing during cooler months making it a dependable all season crop.

Sowing and planting

Sow indoors or outdoors from February to September

Germination takes approximately three to seven days at fifteen to twenty degrees Celsius

Grow in moist well drained soil or on damp tissue or cotton wool

Height five to ten centimetres

Spread five to ten centimetres

Harvest from March to October or year round indoors

 

Sowing instructions

Scatter seeds thinly over moist compost or damp tissue and press gently

Do not cover as light aids germination

Keep evenly moist and harvest when shoots reach three to five centimetres

For outdoor sowing scatter thinly in shallow drills and keep moist

Sow little and often for a continuous supply
