Description

A soft rose pink cornflower with ruffled blooms on tall slender stems bringing gentle colour and movement to summer borders and meadow plantings.

Cornflower Rose Shade is a charming annual producing delicate rose pink flowers that soften the look of borders and wildflower areas while still offering the classic ruffled cornflower form.

Plants grow upright with slender wiry stems and mid green foliage creating a light airy structure that moves easily in the breeze and adds natural texture to summer displays.

The blooms are rich in nectar and pollen and attract bees butterflies and many other pollinating insects making this variety an excellent choice for wildlife friendly gardens.

Rose Shade thrives in full sun and well drained soil and performs strongly even in poorer ground where it flowers freely with minimal care

Flowers last well when cut and can also be dried for simple rustic arrangements.

Sowing and planting

Sow outdoors from March to May for summer flowering or from August to October for earlier flowers the following year

Germination takes approximately fourteen to twenty one days at temperatures between ten and eighteen degrees Celsius

Grow in free draining soil in full sun

Spread fifteen to twenty five centimetres

Sowing instructions

Sow thinly in shallow drills around five millimetres deep and cover lightly with soil

Keep moist until seedlings appear then thin to allow strong upright growth

Autumn sowings overwinter and flower earlier the following summer

Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous flowering

Support may be helpful in exposed sites due to tall stems

Water during prolonged dry spells but avoid waterlogging
