Chives Herb Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Allium schoenoprasum are a versatile, perennial herb known for their mild onion flavour and delicate, tubular green leaves.

The Latin name Allium means "garlic," reflecting its close relation to garlic and onions, while schoenoprasum translates to "rush leek," describing its slender, grass-like foliage. Perfect for seasoning soups, salads, dips, and omelettes, chives also produce attractive purple flowers that are edible and add a pop of colour to your dishes.

Reaching a height of 20-30 cm, chives thrive in sunny or partially shaded locations with well-drained soil. Their compact growth habit makes them ideal for garden borders, containers, or windowsill pots, offering a constant supply of fresh herbs for culinary use.

A must-have for herb enthusiasts, chives are easy to grow and a fantastic addition to any kitchen garden.
