A traditional Spanish chilli pepper variety producing small green fruits with mild flavour and occasional bursts of heat.

Unlike hotter chilli types Padron peppers are usually mild when harvested young but a few fruits develop unexpected heat making them one of the most exciting peppers to grow and eat.

 

Its reliable cropping and distinctive flavour make it a favourite for home gardens and allotments.

 

Seed Qty Approx 0.15 grams 

 

Sow February to April indoors in pots or trays. Germination 7 to 14 days at 20–25°C. Soil and Position Warm fertile well drained soil; prefers full sun and sheltered sites. Height 45–60 cm with branching stems and small tapered fruits. Harvesting July to October; pick fruits when green and 5–7 cm long for traditional Padron flavour.

 

Sowing instructions

Sow seeds thinly in pots or trays filled with seed compost. Cover lightly and place in a warm bright position. Transplant seedlings into individual pots once large enough to handle. Harden off before planting outdoors after the last frost. Space plants 40 cm apart in rows 60 cm apart.

 

Grow and maintenance

Grow in fertile soil with regular watering to encourage strong growth. Provide support for plants as fruits develop. Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser during the growing season. Padron ORGANIC thrives in warm sunny conditions and benefits from protection in cooler climates.
