A striking ornamental chilli pepper producing small bell shaped fruits that mature from green to a brilliant glossy red.

 

The name translates as “Beautiful Bell,” and the plants are as decorative as they are productive. Compact and bushy, they are ideal for pots, borders, or greenhouse growing.

 

The fruits are highly pungent, with a heat level of up to 200,000 Scoville units, placing them among the hotter Capsicum annuum types.

 

Their thick walls and aromatic flavour make them excellent for seasoning sauces, salsas, and marinades.

Soil and Position Fertile, free draining compost in full sun. Best grown under glass or in a sheltered outdoor spot

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds indoors in pots or trays of moist compost, covering lightly with vermiculite. Keep at a steady 22–28°C until germination. Transplant seedlings into individual pots once large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out after the last frost, spacing 40 cm apart.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly and feed with a high potash fertiliser once flowering begins. Support plants if heavily laden with fruit. Pick peppers regularly to encourage further cropping. Fruits can be harvested at any stage of ripening, though flavour and heat intensify as they mature.
