Cauliflower Romanesco ORGANIC Seed - Irish Plants Direct

This unusual looking cauliflower is an excellent Italian variety with bright yellow green heads good sized attractive heads with a good flavour. They are more aromatic than a traditional cauliflower. 

Harvested young to use as baby heads or leave to grow to maturity. 

Sow January - June 
Germination time 14 - 21 days
Loam - sandy soil that's alkaline or neutral
Harvest July - December 
Companion Plants Other brassicas, chard, celery, spinach, tomato, rosemary, sage and onion.
Do not plant with strawberries
Cut the flower heads with a sharp knife at ground level when they are young
A good source of vitamin C and fibre
Use for Boiling or steaming
Ideal for freezing
 
Brassicas require a deep humus rich soil in partial shade that has been well dug in autumn, they do not grow well in acidic soil so adding lime to the soil may be necessary.
 
Water well when transplanting and keep watered during dry spells. 
 
Sow outside between April - June in a seedbed sowing thinly in drills 1.25cm deep thin the seedlings eventually spacing the plants 45cm apart and 60cm between rows into their final growing position treading the plant in well.
 
Alternatively Sow indoors in seed tray of moist compost between January - March when the young plants are large enough to handle pot on into trays spacing 5cm apart or into individual pots. 
 
Gradually harden the plants off before planting out in their final position.
