Sowing Instructions

 

For early crops, sow seeds indoors in trays or modules from February to April. Lightly cover with fine compost and maintain a temperature of 15–20°C. Transplant seedlings into individual pots once large enough to handle and harden them off before planting out when the risk of frost has passed.

 

For direct sowing outdoors, prepare well-fertilised soil and sow seeds thinly in drills 1 cm deep, spacing rows 40 cm apart. Thin seedlings to 30 cm apart once they develop their first true leaves.

 

Keep plants well-watered during dry periods and apply a balanced organic fertiliser to encourage steady growth. Harvest when the curds are firm and fully formed for the best flavour and texture.
