Catmint Catnip Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

A fragrant perennial with soft grey-green foliage and lavender-blue blooms, loved by pollinators and cats alike.

Catmint (Nepeta mussinii) is a versatile herbaceous perennial prized for its aromatic leaves, long flowering season, and relaxed, mounding habit. Its soft, tubular flowers bloom from late spring through autumn, attracting bees and butterflies while adding a gentle haze of colour to borders, containers, and herb gardens.

The foliage releases a minty scent when brushed, and its euphoric effect on cats makes it a playful addition to pet-friendly spaces.

Easy to grow and drought tolerant once established, catmint thrives in sunny or lightly shaded spots and complements both formal and cottage style plantings.

Sow seeds indoors from February to April or directly outdoors from May. Press seeds lightly into the surface of moist compost and cover sparingly. Choose a sunny or lightly shaded site with well drained soil. Pinch back young plants to encourage bushiness and deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering. Water moderately and avoid overfeeding. Harvest foliage as needed for tea, potpourri, or drying.
