Carrot Galaxy Seeds. - Irish Plants Direct

This nantes type carrot is an early to medium cropping variety and has bright orange blunt ended roots with a crunchy texture.

The carrots do not rise when growing so the tops remain orange.

Grow in deep planters and troughs if space is limited.

Stores well over winter.

Loam or chalky soil that's alkaline, acidic or neutral

Harvest June - November

Companion Plants Leeks, onions, parsley, radish, tomato, lettuce and marigolds.

Do not plant with kohl rabi, parsnip or fennel

Pull up the small carrots from June onwards

A good source of vitamin A

Use for Boiling, steaming or using raw in salads

A handy tip thin the carrots in evening after watering to try and avoid the carrot root fly.

Carrots need a firm fertile crumbling soil that has not been manure in the last year. Dig the ground in autumn and add a general fertiliser two weeks before sowing.

Water well in dry weather to prevent splitting.

Try to thin the carrots in the evening to avoid carrot fly.

Sow during March under cloches to harvest a crop from June onwards.

Then make successional sowings between April - June in open ground.

The seed is extremely small but try to sow as thinly as possible in drills 1cm deep and in rows 15cm apart when the seedlings appear thin to around 5cm apart.
