Carrot Amsterdam 2 Seeds. - Irish Plants Direct

This early variety of carrot has long smooth blunt ended bright orange roots with a crunchy texture and good flavour.

Sow little and often for a continuous supply of delicious carrots harvest from July onwards.

They do not store well over a long period of time.

Loam - chalky soil that's alkaline, acidic or neutral

Harvest July - September

Companion Plants Leeks, onions, parsley, radish, tomato, lettuce and marigolds

Do not plant with kohl rabi, parsnip or fennel

Can be harvested as baby carrots

A good source of vitamin A

Use for Boiling, steaming or using raw in salad

A handy tip thin the carrots in the evening after watering to try to avoid carrot root fly.

Carrots need a firm fertile soil thats not been manured in the last year. Dig the soil in autumn and apply a general fertiliser two weeks before sowing. Water the carrots during dry weather to prevent them splitting and try to thin in the evening to avoid carrot fly.

Sow during March under cloches to harvest an early crop in July then between April - June in open ground.

Make successional sowings through summer.

The seed is extremely small but try to sow as thinly as possible in drills 1cm deep and in rows 15cm apart when the seedlings appear thin to around 10cm apart.
