A unique and elegant calendula producing soft pastel blooms in shades of peach apricot and buff with delicate darker centres. Known botanically as Calendula officinalis Touch Of Buff this variety is valued for its unusual colouring and long flowering season. The compact plants are easy to grow and provide a continuous display of subtle toned blooms throughout the summer.

 

Unlike traditional bright orange calendulas Touch Of Buff offers a softer colour palette making it ideal for cottage gardens borders and cutting. Its nectar rich flowers are highly attractive to bees and pollinators.

Sow March to May directly outdoors or indoors for earlier blooms. Germination 7 to 14 days at 15–20°C. Soil and Position Fertile well drained soil; prefers full sun. Height Approx 45 cm; upright bushy habit. Flowering June to September; pastel toned blooms with darker centres.

 

Sowing instructions

 

Sow seeds directly outdoors from March to May in prepared soil. Scatter thinly in rows 30 cm apart and cover lightly with fine soil. Water gently and keep moist until seedlings establish. Thin to 25 cm spacing once large enough to handle. For earlier flowers sow indoors in trays from March and transplant after frost.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Grow in full sun in fertile well drained soil. Water regularly during dry spells and deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering. Plants are hardy annuals and will often self seed for future displays. Suitable for borders cutting gardens and wildlife friendly plantings.
