Calendula Fiesta Gitana Mixed Seed – Irish Plants Direct

 

A compact and cheerful calendula mix producing masses of brightly coloured blooms in shades of orange yellow apricot and cream. Known botanically as Calendula officinalis Fiesta Gitana this dwarf variety is ideal for borders containers and edging. The double and semi double flowers are long lasting and highly attractive to bees and pollinators.

 

Unlike taller calendula strains Fiesta Gitana remains neat and bushy making it perfect for smaller spaces and pots. Its long flowering season ensures continuous colour throughout the summer.

 

Seed Qty Approx 1.5 grams

 

Sow March to May directly outdoors or indoors for earlier blooms. Germination 7 to 14 days at 15–20°C. Soil and Position Fertile well drained soil; prefers full sun. Height Approx 20 to 25 cm; compact bushy habit. Flowering June to September; masses of bright blooms in mixed colours.

 

Sowing instructions

 

Sow seeds directly outdoors from March to May in prepared soil. Scatter thinly in rows 30 cm apart and cover lightly with fine soil. Water gently and keep moist until seedlings establish. Thin to 20 cm spacing once large enough to handle. For earlier flowers sow indoors in trays from March and transplant after frost.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Grow in full sun in fertile well drained soil. Water regularly during dry spells and deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering. Plants are hardy annuals and will often self seed for future displays. Suitable for low maintenance borders and containers.
