Sowing Instructions

 

Sow indoors March to May surface sow or cover very lightly in trays of moist seed compost and keep at 15 to 20°C for best results. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle and harden off before planting out after the last frost. For direct sowing choose April to June in a well prepared seedbed and thin to 15 to 30 cm apart. Sow later in the season for summer displays in containers.

 

Grow in full sun with sharply free draining soil and moderate fertility. Water regularly during establishment then reduce to encourage deeper roots. Deadhead lightly to prolong flowering or leave seedheads to dry on the plant for arrangements. Cut stems when flowerheads are fully formed but still soft and dry slowly for best results. Suitable for coastal exposure and drought tolerant once established.
