Sow March to July directly outdoors in shallow drills

Germination 7 to 14 days in warm steady conditions

Soil and Position Fertile well drained soil in full sun. Avoid freshly manured ground

Height Approx 30 to 40 cm with upright leafy tops

Harvest June to October. Lift roots when young for baby beets or allow to mature for larger bulbs

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow thinly in shallow drills 1.5 cm deep with 30 cm between rows. Cover lightly with soil and water well. Thin seedlings to 10 cm apart once established. Successional sowings every three weeks will provide a continuous harvest.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Keep soil moist to prevent roots from becoming woody. Hoe between rows to control weeds and earth up slightly around the base of plants to encourage even root development. Harvest young leaves for use in salads or as cooked greens. Lift roots carefully to avoid damage and store in a cool dry place.
