Beetroot Boltardy Seeds – Irish Plants Direct

Beetroot Boltardy (Beta vulgaris L.) is one of the most popular and reliable beetroot varieties, renowned for its excellent flavour and resistance to bolting.

Its smooth, round roots have a deep red colour, tender flesh, and a sweet, earthy taste, making it perfect for salads, roasting, pickling, or juicing.

This early-maturing variety is ideal for successional sowings, providing a steady supply of high-quality roots throughout summer and into autumn.

Highly versatile, it can be grown in beds, allotments, or large containers, offering consistent harvests even in variable weather. Its resistance to bolting ensures dependable cropping, even when sown early in the season.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds directly outdoors from March onwards, as soon as the soil can be worked. Prepare a fine seedbed in full sun. Sow thinly in rows 2 cm deep, spaced 30 cm apart. Thin seedlings to 10 cm apart once established to allow roots to develop fully.

For successional cropping, sow every 2–3 weeks until mid-summer. Keep soil moist and weed-free for best results. Harvest roots when they reach golf-ball to tennis-ball size for the sweetest flavour.

Beetroot Boltardy is a gardener’s favourite – dependable, sweet, and versatile in the kitchen, making it a must-have for homegrown vegetable gardens.
