Bean Bush Maxi ORGANIC Seeds

A reliable and heavy cropping French bean with long straight pods held well above the foliage for easy picking. Known botanically as Phaseolus vulgaris Maxi this organic variety produces abundant tender stringless beans with excellent flavour. The compact bushy plants are strong and uniform making them ideal for gardens large or small.

 

 

Unlike climbing beans Maxi requires no support and matures quickly producing generous harvests over a long season. Its neat habit and high yields make it a favourite for both home gardeners and market growers.

Sow April to July directly outdoors after frost. Germination 7 to 14 days at 15–25°C. Soil and Position Fertile well drained soil; prefers full sun and a sheltered position. Height Approx 40 to 50 cm; compact bush habit. Harvesting July to September; pick pods regularly to encourage continuous cropping.

 

Sowing instructions

 

Sow directly outdoors from April once the soil has warmed. Place seeds 5 cm deep in rows 40 cm apart spacing 15 cm between plants. Water well after sowing. For an earlier crop seeds may be started indoors in modules and transplanted after frost. Successional sowings every three weeks will extend the harvest period.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Grow in full sun in fertile moisture retentive soil enriched with organic matter. Water regularly especially during dry spells and when pods are forming. Feed with a balanced fertiliser to encourage strong growth and heavy yields. No staking is required. Harvest pods frequently while young and tender to promote further production. Protect from slugs and birds at the seedling stage.
