This variety produces deep purple, slightly ribbed fruits with a tender, creamy flesh and mild flavour, making it perfect for a wide range of culinary uses. Growing to a height of 60-80 cm, Melanza Properosa thrives in warm, sunny gardens or greenhouses and can be grown in larger containers as well.

Sowing Instructions

 

Start seeds indoors from February to April, 1 cm deep in moist, well-drained compost. Keep in a warm, sunny spot at a temperature of 21-24°C for optimal germination. Once seedlings are strong enough, transplant them into the garden or greenhouse after the last frost.

 

Alternatively, sow directly into containers in a sunny, sheltered area for continued warmth. Space plants 45-60 cm apart to allow for their robust growth.
