Acer Rubrum Red Maple Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This large deciduous tree provides stunning autumn colour.

A large rounded tree that will grow upto 12 metres in height and is a great architectural focal point.

It has dark green five lobed leaves with a slight white underside and the foliage turns from a bronzed colour to shades of bright firey red during autumn.

Germination time 4 - 8 weeks

Well drained acidic - neutral soil

Plant in sun

Pop the seed in the freezer for 3 weeks then soak the seed in warm water 24 hours before sowing.

Sow the seed year round into pots if moist compost 1cm deep and place on a sunny window sill or in a propagator the temperature needs to be between 20°

Cover the pot with clear polythene to retain moisture.

Remove regularly so mould doesn't form.

When the plants are large enough to handle transplant into individual pots to grow on.
