  • Description

A bold architectural acanthus with deep rose pink flower spikes and dramatic glossy foliage that brings strong structure and long lasting colour to borders and naturalistic plantings.

Acanthus Mollis Vicioso is a striking selection of the classic bear’s breeches, producing tall upright flower spikes in rich shades of rose pink with soft cream highlights.

The blooms rise above large sculptural leaves that create an impressive presence in any garden. The combination of bold foliage and elegant flower spikes gives this variety a refined Mediterranean look that suits both modern and traditional designs.

This reliable perennial is bred for strong growth and a long flowering season, offering colour from early summer into late summer. Plants form substantial clumps that carry a generous number of flower stems, each packed with long lasting blooms that attract bees and other beneficial insects.

The flowers are excellent for cutting and add height and texture to arrangements.

Acanthus thrives in full sun or partial shade and prefers free draining soil. It performs especially well in warm sheltered positions where the foliage can reach its full dramatic size. Once established it is drought tolerant and low maintenance, making it ideal for larger borders, architectural planting schemes and Mediterranean style gardens. The bold leaves remain attractive for much of the year, giving the plant strong visual impact even when not in flower.

Hardy and easy to grow, this variety returns reliably each year and gradually forms a larger clump that becomes a standout feature in the garden. Its deep rose pink tones and sculptural form make it a superb choice for gardeners who enjoy dramatic foliage and long lasting summer flowers.

Sowing Instructions
Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours before sowing to improve germination. Sow into moist free draining compost and cover lightly with a thin layer of compost. Maintain gentle warmth and keep the compost evenly moist until seedlings appear. Transplant young plants into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off gradually and plant out after the last frost into a sunny or lightly shaded position.

Grow and Maintenance
Water regularly during the first season to help plants establish, then reduce watering as acanthus prefers drier conditions once mature. Remove spent flower spikes to keep plants tidy. Cut back old foliage in late winter to encourage fresh new growth. Plants are hardy and long lived, gradually forming impressive clumps. Protect young plants from slugs and snails.
