Statice Blue Seed

Statice (Limonium sinuatum) is a beautiful and long-lasting annual renowned for its clusters of vivid blue, papery blooms.

 

A favourite among florists, this variety is perfect for fresh and dried flower arrangements, as its delicate yet sturdy blooms retain their colour for months. With a bushy, upright habit, it is ideal for borders, cottage gardens, and coastal landscapes, where it thrives in sunny, well drained conditions.

 

This drought-tolerant plant is an excellent choice for wildlife friendly gardens, attracting bees and butterflies. Its low maintenance nature makes it suitable for both beginner and experienced gardeners.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds indoors from February to April for early blooms. Fill trays or pots with well-draining compost, sow seeds thinly on the surface, and lightly cover with vermiculite. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, maintaining a temperature of 18-22°C.

 

Once seedlings develop true leaves, transplant them into individual pots and grow on in a bright, cool area. Harden off before planting outdoors after the last frost, spacing plants 25-30 cm apart in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil.

 

For direct outdoor sowing, plant seeds in April or May in well-prepared soil, lightly covering them. Water gently and thin seedlings as needed.

 

 

Statice is a wonderful addition to summer borders and cut flower gardens, bringing long-lasting colour and elegance throughout the season.
