Primula Drumstick Mix Seed

 

A charming and early flowering perennial with rounded clusters of blooms held aloft on sturdy stems. Drumstick Primula produces tight spheres of violet, lavender, pink, or white flowers above a rosette of fresh green leaves.

 

Flowering from early spring, it brings colour and structure to damp borders, woodland edges, and shaded containers.

 

This reliable perennial thrives in moist, humus-rich soil and partial shade. It naturalises well in cool gardens and is ideal for underplanting with ferns or spring bulbs. A favourite for pollinator friendly planting schemes and traditional cottage gardens.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist well drained compost and lightly cover with fine soil or vermiculite. Maintain cool temperatures at 15 to 18°C in a propagator or covered tray. Germination may take 2 to 4 weeks. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out in autumn or spring spacing 20 to 30 cm apart. Keep soil consistently moist during establishment.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly during dry spells and mulch annually to retain moisture. Feed lightly in spring with a balanced fertiliser. Remove spent flower heads to encourage tidy growth. Drumstick Primula prefers cool conditions and partial shade and will slowly naturalise in suitable settings. Suitable for borders woodland gardens and wildlife schemes.
