Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds on the surface of moist well drained compost and lightly cover with a fine layer of soil or vermiculite. Maintain a temperature of 18 to 22°C in a propagator or covered tray. Germination is usually quick and even. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out after the last frost spacing 30 to 40 cm apart. Choose a sunny sheltered position with excellent drainage.

 

Grow and Maintenance

Water regularly during establishment then sparingly once plants are growing strongly. Avoid overfeeding as this can reduce flowering. Remove faded blooms to encourage continuous production. Osteospermum thrives in hot dry conditions and is ideal for containers borders and coastal gardens. In mild areas plants may overwinter if kept dry and protected.
