Germination 14 to 28 days when kept at a steady warm temperature; seedlings establish reliably with consistent warmth and moisture.

Soil and Position Suits loam chalk or clay and tolerates acidic alkaline or neutral soils; prefers a sunny position and will perform well in part shade at the rear of borders.

Height Approx 60 to 90 cm making it ideal for the back of borders and tall container displays.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow thinly February to April in trays of sieved moist compost and press seeds gently into the surface; maintain a warm temperature in a propagator or on a heated windowsill, prick out when large enough to handle and transplant into larger trays before hardening off and planting out after all risk of frost has passed.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Grow in full sun or part shade in free draining fertile soil. Water regularly while establishing and avoid waterlogging.

 

Stake or plant in sheltered sites to prevent wind damage on taller plants. Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the flowering season to support prolific bloom production. Remove spent stems to tidy plants and prolong the display.
