Sow Sow March to April under cover for earlier displays; direct sow outdoors April to May after all risk of frost has passed.

Germination 7 to 21 days at 18 to 25°C; sow shallowly on a fine, moist seed compost and cover very lightly.

Soil and Position Prefers full sun and well drained soil; tolerant of a range of soil types.

Height 20–30 cm; compact, bushy habit ideal for edging, mixed containers and close planting for massed colour.

Flowering Early summer through to the first frosts; deadhead regularly to prolong the display.

Good Companions Vegetables (helps deter some pests); bedding plants; pollinator?friendly herb and flower mixes.

Avoid Pairing With Very shade loving plants.

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Surface sow thinly into trays or modules March–April and keep at a warm temperature; prick out when sturdy and harden off before planting out after risk of frost. For direct sowing wait until soil has warmed and thin to 20–30 cm apart for best effect.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Grow in full sun, water moderately while establishing and avoid waterlogging. Feed lightly during the season. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering; allow some seed set if you want volunteers next year.
