Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist well drained compost and do not cover, as light aids germination. Maintain warmth at 18 to 24°C in a propagator or covered tray. Germination usually occurs within 2 to 3 weeks. Transplant seedlings in small clumps into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out after last frost spacing 20 to 30 cm apart. For direct sowing wait until soil is warm and frost risk has passed.

Water regularly during dry spells and feed monthly with a balanced fertiliser. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continued flowering. Lobelia prefers consistent moisture and benefits from partial shade in hot conditions. Suitable for borders containers and hanging baskets.
