Lettuce Vailan Winter Gem Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This popular little gem letter can be grown throughout winter with frost protection.

They have good colour and nice flavour use in mixed salads sow little and often for a continuous supply.

Good disease resistance.

Loam or sandy soik that's alkaline or neutral

Harvest May - October

Companion Plants Beetroot, beans, carrot and radish

Do not plant with cabbage

Cut the lettuce when they are large enough.

A good source of vitamin A

Use in Salad and sandwiches

Make successional sowings in fertile well drained soil in a sheltered sunny spot fortnightly to ensure a good supply throughout summer.

Lettuce does not grow well in acidic soil.

Keep well watered during dry spells. Suitable for growing in pots and containers.

Sow thinly outdoors September - April in drills 1.5cm deep and 1.5cm between rows when the seedlings appear thin to 20cm apart.
