Leek Stromboli F1 – Allium ampeloprasum var. porrum

Early-maturing, vigorous F1 leek producing long, thick, tender white shafts with good blanched length and mild, sweet flavour; reliable for baby leeks and main season harvests, tolerant of bolting and tip burn.

 

Stormboli’s uniform growth and strong vigour suit both small gardens and commercial beds.

Good Companions Carrots; celery; beetroot; brassicas that do not share leek pests

Avoid Pairing With Beans; peas; alliums that increase pest pressure

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Start in modules or seed trays February–April and keep at 15–20°C for steady germination. Transplant when seedlings reach 10–15 cm or have 3–4 true leaves; plant into trenches or holes and heel in to blanch the stem; final spacing 10–15 cm within rows and 20–30 cm between rows. For overwinter leeks sow July–August and grow on steadily before transplanting in autumn. Harden off transplants before moving outside and protect young plants from slug damage.

 

Grow in deep, fertile soil with regular watering to encourage long, tender shafts. Side dress or feed with balanced fertiliser during rapid growth and earth up or blanch stems gradually to increase pale, crisp length. Mulch to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Lift leeks as needed through winter or harvest in bulk; store in the ground with mulch for ongoing supply. Rotate away from other alliums to reduce disease and pest build up.
