Kale Scarlet Seed - Irish Plants Direct

 

This attractive vegetable produces large crops of purple curled leaves with a mild flavour the colour will intensifiey the colder the weather gets. 

 

It can be harvested over a long period of time throughout winter.

Sow outside May - July in a prepared seed bed sowing thinly in rows 1.5cm deep keep the soil moist. When the plants have around 5 leaves transplant to their final position leaving 60cm between plants and 60cm between rows firm in and water well.

 

Sow indoors April - May in a trays and cover with a fine layer of compost place on a warm windowsill or in a warm greenhouse grow on until the plants are large enough to handle then transplant into tray 5cm apart to grow on.

 

Accustom the plants to outside and plant out when the risk of frost has passed leaving 60cm between each plant and 60cm between rows.

They are a taller variety that may need staking in exposed gardens.
