Forget Me Not Indigo Seeds

Charming cottage garden classic with clusters of small intense indigo blue flowers and bright yellow centres. Forget Me Not Indigo forms neat clumps of hairy green foliage that provide long lasting spring colour and excellent ground cover beneath shrubs and trees.

 

Loved by bees and early pollinators, these biennial or short lived perennial plants are ideal for borders rockeries and naturalistic meadow corners and they perform well in partially shaded sites.

Germination 7 to 21 days, often improved by cold period

Soil Light to medium well drained loam or sandy, neutral to slightly acidic

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow thinly on the surface or cover very lightly in trays or modules of moist seed compost. For spring flowering sow March to May and cold stratify or place in an unheated frame over winter to aid germination. For autumn sowing sow August to September where seedlings establish before winter. Keep at cool temperatures around 10 to 15°C for best results and keep moist but not waterlogged. Transplant when large enough to handle and space 15 to 25 cm apart.

 

Direct sow into a well prepared weed free seedbed in autumn or early spring and thin to final spacing.

 

Grow in partial shade to full sun in cooler sites and in moist but well drained soil. Mulch lightly to retain moisture and avoid dry conditions. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage tidy growth and collect seed if naturalising is desired. Plants may self seed freely in suitable conditions; thin seedlings to maintain clump vigour. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps in autumn or spring every 3 to 4 years.
