A charming and easy to grow biennial or short lived perennial with clouds of deep indigo blue flowers and soft green 

 

It forms low, bushy clumps and blooms prolifically in spring, creating a frothy carpet of colour beneath trees, along paths, or in mixed borders. Its rich colouring and nostalgic appeal make it ideal for cottage gardens and naturalistic planting.

 

This moisture tolerant plant thrives in partial shade and well drained soil and is perfect for underplanting spring bulbs, softening edges, and attracting early pollinators.

 

It self seeds freely and naturalises beautifully in informal settings.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds thinly where plants are to flower or in trays/modules for transplanting. Lightly cover with soil and keep moist until germination. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle and space 20 to 30 cm apart. For best results, sow in summer for flowering the following spring.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly during dry spells, especially in the first year. Deadhead to prevent excessive self-seeding or allow to naturalise for a soft, informal effect. Suitable for borders, woodland edges, and underplanting bulbs. Cut back after flowering if needed to tidy growth.
