Dahlia Bishops Children Seeds

Dahlia Bishop’s Children is a half hardy perennial typically grown as an annual from seed. Bred from the famous ‘Bishop of Llandaff’, this strain produces striking single flowers in a rich colour palette, enhanced by dark, ferny foliage.

 

Flowering freely in the first year from seed, it brings bold colour and texture to summer borders while its nectar-rich blooms attract bees and butterflies.

 

Plants form tubers that can be lifted and stored to replant the following spring. Excellent as a cut flower, with strong stems and long lasting blooms.

Germination: 7 – 21 days at 20–25°C

Soil: Fertile, well-drained; loam or sandy; neutral to slightly acidic

Avoid Pairing With: Shade-loving or moisture-demanding plants

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow indoors from February to April in trays of moist seed compost, covering lightly with 3–5 mm of compost or vermiculite. Maintain 20–25°C and keep evenly moist until germination (7–21 days). Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant outdoors after the last frost, spacing 30–40 cm apart.

 

Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering. Lift tubers in autumn, dry, and store frost-free for replanting next spring.
