Cosmos Sulphur Dwarf Mixed Seeds – Irish Plants Direct

 

A compact and brilliantly coloured selection of Cosmos sulphureus producing masses of daisy shaped blooms in glowing shades of gold orange and warm red.

 

The flowers rise above bushy fern like foliage creating a lively display that thrives even in heat and poorer soils.

 

It forms neat rounded plants that are ideal for borders containers and pollinator friendly gardens.

 

The vivid colours and long flowering season bring energy and movement to summer displays while attracting bees butterflies and hoverflies throughout the warmer months.

 

Flowering begins in early summer and continues until the first frosts offering months of bright colour with very little maintenance. Its compact habit makes it perfect for smaller gardens exposed sites and mixed plantings where taller cosmos may be unsuitable.

Germination 7 to 21 days at 18 to 22°C

Soil and Position Free draining moderately fertile soil in full sun

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds on the surface of moist well drained compost and lightly cover with a fine layer of soil or vermiculite. Maintain a temperature of 18 to 22°C in a propagator or covered tray. Germination is usually quick and reliable. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out after the last frost spacing 25 to 40 cm apart. For direct sowing wait until the soil has warmed and frost risk has passed.

 

Grow and Maintenance

Water regularly during dry spells but avoid overfeeding as this can reduce flowering. Remove spent blooms to encourage continuous production. Cosmos sulphureus thrives in full sun and poorer soils making it an excellent low maintenance choice for long lasting summer colour. Suitable for borders containers and wildlife friendly schemes.
