Cineraria Silver Dust Seed

A compact silver foliage plant with finely cut leaves soft texture and strong all season brightness for borders and containers.

 

Silverdust is a popular form of silver ragwort grown for its finely divided silvery white leaves which create a bright frosted look and bring instant contrast to bedding schemes containers and mixed borders.

 

Plants form neat rounded mounds with soft woolly foliage that keeps its colour throughout the season and pairs beautifully with bold flowering plants in any colour palette.

 

The leaves have a delicate fern like shape that becomes more defined as the plant matures giving a textured layered effect that stands out in both sun and partial shade.

 

Although grown mainly for its foliage it may produce small yellow daisy like flowers in summer though many gardeners remove these to maintain the strongest leaf display.

 

Silverdust thrives in full sun and well drained soil and is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to perform well in coastal or exposed sites where other plants may struggle.

Sow indoors February to April 

Germination 10 to 20 days at 18 to 22 C

Sowing instructions

Sow thinly on the surface of moist fine compost and press gently without covering heavily

Keep lightly moist until seedlings appear then prick out and grow on in bright conditions before planting out after frost

 

Growing and maintenance

Trim older leggy growth to keep plants compact

Pinch out flower buds if you want to focus growth on foliage

Water sparingly once established as plants prefer dry conditions
