Cape Gooseberry Seed - Irish Plants Direct

This spreading perennial soft fruit produces star shaped flowers from July onwards followed by green fruits surrounded by a papery husk.

The golden yellow fruits fall from the plant when ripe delicious eaten fresh.

Sow February - April

Germination 10 - 21 days

Loam or sandy soil that's acidic or neutral

Harvest July - September

A good source of Vitamins A, B, C

Use for puddings, jams, deserts or simply eat fresh

Sow indoors between February - April into a tray of moist compost cover with vermiculite or a fine layer of compost, place on a warm window sill, propagator or warm green house.

When the seedlings are large enough to handle transplant into 9cm pots to grow on plant out in the tunnel or greenhouse border or into grow bags after the risk of frost has passed.

Liquid feed fortnightly when the flowers develope.
