A fast growing versatile vegetable with short green stems and purplish leaves with a savoury flavour. 

Use as baby leaves or leave to mature. 

 

Sow little and often for a continuous supply.

Cabbages require a fertile well drained soil in partial shade that has been well dug in autumn they do not grow well in acidic soil so adding lime to the soil may be necessary.

 

Sow outdoors from June in a seed bed sowing thinly in drills 13mm deep thin the seedlings eventually spacing the plants 15cm apart and 40cm between rows into their final growing position treading the plants in well.

 

Water well before transplanting and ensure they are watered during dry spells.
