Broad Bean The Sutton Seeds - Irish Plants Direct 
 
This award winning bushy variety produces high yields of tasty white beans in green leathery pods it's perfect for growing in a smaller gardens or an exposed site due to it's stocky stature.
 
Can be sown in autumn to overwinter.

Sow February - April or October - November 
Germination 7 - 14 days
Loam - sandy soil that's acidic, alkaline or neutral 
Harvest June - August 
Companion Plants Carrots, spinach, peas and radish.
Do not plant with Onions or Chives.
Harvest when the beans have started to show through the pods, twist off the beans picking regularly 
A good source of vitamin A,C and E
Lightly steam or boil.
 
Broadbeans have fragrant black and white flowers followed by long leathery pods the tasty beans are within these pods.  
They need a sunny spot with a humus rich fertile soil apply a granular fertiliser a week before sowing.
 
Sow the beans between February- April in double rows around 20cm apart leaving 20cm between rows for an early spring crop this hardy variety can be sown in early autumn. 
 
Alternatively sow between October- November to over winter.
 
Pinch out the flower tips when the first beans have set and water well at the base of the plants when the pods start to swell if the weather is dry.
