Aster Pompon Mixed Seed

A half hardy annual with compact, globe shaped blooms in a vibrant mix of colours including red, pink, purple, white, and blue. The tightly packed petals form dense, pompon-style flowers that resemble miniature chrysanthemums, blooming from midsummer into autumn.

 

 

Ideal for borders, containers, and cutting gardens. The plants are bushy and upright, producing long-lasting blooms that hold well in both garden and vase. Excellent for cottage garden schemes and pollinator-friendly planting.

Sow March to May indoors or in a greenhouse.

Germination 7 to 21 days at 20–25°C.

Soil and Position Fertile, well-drained loam with pH 6.0–7.0. Prefers full sun.

Height Approx 45 cm; upright, clumping habit.

Flowering July to October; deadhead to prolong flowering.

 

Sowing instructions

 

Sow between March and May onto moist, free-draining compost. Do not cover seed, as light aids germination. Place in a propagator or cover with a clear lid or bag until germination. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle and grow on in trays or pots. Harden off and plant out after the last frost.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly during dry spells. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continued flowering. Stake if needed in exposed sites. Avoid overhead watering to reduce risk of mildew.
