Alyssum Snow Cloth Seeds

A compact half hardy annual with masses of tiny, pure white flowers that form a soft, scented carpet across borders, containers, and rockeries.

 

The blooms are delicately fragrant and bloom continuously from early summer to autumn, creating a fresh, snow-like effect that brightens any planting scheme.

 

Ideal for edging paths, trailing from pots, or filling gaps in gravel gardens and alpine beds. The low-growing plants spread gently and attract bees and butterflies with their sweet honey scent, especially in warm midday sun.

Sow February to May on a warm windowsill or in a propagator.

Germination 7 to 21 days in warm, steady conditions.

Soil and Position Loam, chalk, or sandy soils that are acidic, alkaline, or neutral. Plant in full sun or light shade.

Height Approx 10 to 15 cm; low, spreading habit.

Flowering June to October; deadhead to prolong flowering.

 

Sowing instructions

 

Sow between February and May onto sieved, moist compost and press the seed down gently. Do not cover, as light aids germination. Keep warm and evenly moist. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into trays spacing plants 5 cm apart to grow on. Harden off and plant out after the last frost.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Plant in full sun in free draining soil. Water regularly while establishing, then moderately. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continued flowering. Trim back lightly after the first flush to maintain compact growth and promote further blooms.
