Sowing Instructions

 

Indoor Sowing:

 

Start seeds indoors in March - April by sowing them individually into small pots filled with moist seed compost.

Sow seeds 2 cm deep, keeping pots at a temperature of 18-21°C.

Once seedlings are 10-15 cm tall and the risk of frost has passed, transplant them outdoors, spacing plants 30-45 cm apart in blocks rather than rows for optimal pollination.

Outdoor Sowing:

 

Direct sow seeds outdoors in May or June when the soil has warmed to at least 10°C.

Sow 2 cm deep and 30-45 cm apart in blocks rather than rows. Thin seedlings as needed.

Growing Tips:

 

Water regularly, especially during dry spells, to ensure well-filled cobs.

Feed with a high-potash fertiliser once plants begin to flower.

Harvest cobs when the silks turn brown, and kernels release a milky juice when pressed.
