The Latin name Trachelium is derived from the Greek word "trachelos," meaning "neck," referring to the plant’s throat-like structure, while caeruleum refers to its blue flowers. The Black Knight variety is a dark, dramatic cultivar with deep purple-black blooms that offer a unique touch to flower arrangements or borders.

 

This compact, bushy plant grows to a height of 50-60 cm and thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soil with full sun to partial shade. Sowing Instructions

 

Indoors:

Sow seeds in seed trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained compost from February to April. Lightly cover the seeds with compost and keep at a temperature of 18–21°C. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots or directly into the garden after the last frost.

 

Outdoors:

Sow directly into prepared soil in a sunny location from April to May. Lightly press the seeds into the soil and keep moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to 30 cm apart once established.
