Strawberry Tree Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This spreading evergreen tree or large shrub has laurel like dark green leaves with an attractive peeling bark.

Also known as Arbutus Unedo it produces edible strawberry like fruits that range in colour from yellow, orange and bright red.

The plant will produce white urn shaped flowers and fruits at the same time on the plant as fruits are produced from the previous years flowers.

Plant in sun

Pop the seed in the fridge for around 4 weeks to simulate winter

Sow the seed year round into pots if moist compost 1cm deep and place on a sunny window sill or in a propagator the temperature needs to be between 20°

Cover the pot with clear polythene to retain moisture.

Remove regularly so mould doesn't form.

When the plants are large enough to handle transplant into individual pots to grow on.
