This heirloom carrot is well-suited to a range of soil types, including heavy or shallow soils where longer carrots may struggle. The crisp texture and sweet taste make it perfect for fresh eating, roasting, and soups.

Sowing Instructions:

Sow seeds directly outdoors from early spring to midsummer in finely prepared soil. Scatter seeds thinly in drills 1 cm deep and 25 cm apart. Keep soil moist until germination. Once seedlings appear, thin them to 5–7 cm apart to allow proper root development.

For best results, grow in a sunny location with well-drained, loose soil free from stones to prevent root forking. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can cause excess leaf growth at the expense of the roots. Regular watering will promote even growth and reduce the risk of cracking.

Harvest when roots reach full size, or leave them in the ground for a later harvest as they store well in the soil.

Carrot 'Chantenay Red Cored 2' is a traditional favourite, offering superior flavour, versatility, and excellent resistance to splitting.
