Beetroot Detroit Globe 2 ORGANIC Seeds

A classic and reliable organic beetroot variety producing smooth round roots with deep crimson flesh and excellent flavour. Known botanically as Beta vulgaris Detroit Globe 2 this heritage type is valued for its uniform shape sweet earthy taste and consistent performance. The roots are tender even when large and the glossy green tops can also be harvested as nutritious leafy greens.

 

Unlike some older strains Detroit Globe 2 is bolt resistant and matures evenly making it a dependable choice for both home gardens and allotments. Its versatility in the kitchen and reliability in the garden have made it a long standing favourite.

 

Seed Qty Approx 3 grams

 

Sow March to July directly outdoors in drills. Germination 7 to 14 days at 10–25°C. Soil and Position Fertile well drained soil; prefers full sun. Height Approx 30 cm foliage; roots develop below ground. Harvesting June to October; lift roots when young and tender or allow to mature for larger beets.

 

Sowing instructions

 

Prepare a fine seed bed in full sun. Sow seeds thinly in drills 2 cm deep and 30 cm apart. Thin seedlings to 10 cm spacing once established. Water well after sowing and keep soil moist during dry spells. For a continuous supply sow every three weeks until mid summer.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Grow in fertile well drained soil enriched with organic matter. Keep soil moist to prevent roots from becoming woody. Hoe between rows to control weeds and avoid disturbing the roots. Harvest regularly to encourage further growth. Both roots and young leaves are edible.
