Sweet Corn Zlota Karlowa Seeds - Irish Plants Direct 
 
This reliable polish sweetcorn is an early dwarf variety reaching between 70 - 90cm tall with very sweet pale yellow cobs between 8 - 12cm long.

Sow March - May
Germination 10 - 14 days
Loam or sandy soil that's acid or neutral 
Harvest August - September
Companion Plants Beans, cucumber, squash, pumpkins 
Do not plant with celery or tomato
Test the full cobs for ripeness when the tassels have turned brown, gently peal back the cover on the kernel and press the one or two of the kernels if a creamy white liquid squirts out the corn is ready.  Twist off the cob and use as soon as possible.
A good source of Vitamin A, B3 and C
Boil the corn and eat straight off the cob
 
It's essential that Sweetcorn is grown in full sun which is sheltered from winds. Good drainage and plenty of humus is needed to prevent the ground from not drying out.
Dig the soil in winter and add fertiliser 2 weeks before planting the corn. Sweetcorn must be sown in rectangular blocks to ensure good pollination.
Water well in dry weather.
 
Sow indoors between March - May in 7.5cm pots 2 seeds per pot and place on a sunny window sill keep warm and moist thin the plants by removing the weaker plant when they reach 2cm tall.
 
Gradually harden off the plants and plant out in May - June after all risk of frosts have past planting 40cm apart.
 
Alternatively sow direct outdoors in June planting 2 seeds 1.5cm deep and 40cm apart in blocks when the seedlings emerge remove the weakest plant.
