Xotica Collection Sopropo Bittergourd Seeds - Irish Plants Direct 
 
This fast growing annual trailing vine produces green watery cucumber like fruits with a bitter taste. 
 
It bears yellow flowers with long fruits with green to yellow red fruits.
 
Also known as bitter melon it is closley related to a pumpkin, courgette and squash with large hairy leaves. 
 
Pick when green hollow out the fruit stuff with meat, fish or chop to add to stir fries.

Germination 14 - 28 days
Loam or sandy soil 
Harvest July - October 
Companion plants Corn, Pumpkins, Nasturtium
Harvest by cutting the fruit off the plant
Uses bake or use in stir fry 
 
Sow from April onwards into 9cm pots placing 2 seeds on their side 1.5 cm deep place on a sunny window sill or propagator.
 
Keeping moist remove the weaker seeding when they emerge and grow on the stronger one.
 
Plant out into the border, large container or grow bag in a tunnel or greenhouse. 
 
Support will be needed for this vine plant. 
 
It will produce both male and female flowers the female are easily recognised as they have an Ovary at the base of the flower. Hand pollinating may be required.
